View Your Location on MyersGeo Maps w/ your Phone GPS

Have you ever been out in a new area and tried to view your paths using Google Maps or Open Street Map? Have you ever been outside cell coverage and your palms start to sweat because you’re a little lost? Or perhaps it’s just inconvenient to filter your search results to your favorite restaurants and bike routes? Well, boy-howdy, do I sure have something fun for you.

When you download some of my maps, they can be used in a commonplace free app called Avenza to plot your location without having to download new map information as you go. You can download the map to your device and view your location on the map at any time without a mobile connection. This is useful for exploring new areas which may not be “data-rich” and/or finding your way through areas without the need for mobile data.

With a Myers Geography
geoPDF on your phone,
you’ll find new places
and never be lost again!

The GPS function on your phone will operate fine in airplane mode. So long as you have the map downloaded to your device beforehand, you can find your way anytime. This function allows for your phone to conserve more battery life, and for you to find your way without needing cell data. All maps are small in file size and can be easily zoomed in and out on.

How to show
your location
on a MyersGeo map

  • Be sure to have Avenza Maps installed on your phone.

  • After purchasing one of my maps, I always send a Dropbox link to a digital copy of the map. Seek this out, or feel free to contact me for a copy!

  • Download the map to your phone. Or, if you have the Dropbox app, add the file to your collection.

  • In the Avenza App, use the + button near the top to open the map. You will be cued to use either Dropbox or to find the file on your device storage.

  • When the map loads, your location should be plotted right on the screen with a small blue stylus.

  • At this point, you could turn on airplane mode, or otherwise turn off all data/wifi to save battery.

  • Final step! Find new places and take new routes you’ve never been on!
